Noa leads a women’s political group called Mujeres por la paz.
Noa was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She has always expressed herself artistically through poetry and through painting. She has 5 adult children and 14 grandchildren. Her husband, a journalist, went missing over 10 years ago, and she has since become a tireless advocate for human rights and freedom of the press.
More recently, she connected with her cousin Paola Avalos, a retired city councillor in Ottawa, Canada. Together they have collaborated on campaigns to draw attention to the human rights violations happening in Colombia, specifically enforced disappearance. Noa has travelled to Ottawa many times to speak at the Parliament of Canada and at universities about her work with her women’s political group, Mujeres por la paz.
